Independence Day has been a tradition since the American Revolution (1775-83). Soldiers from the 13 colonies fought the revolutionary struggle in June 1776, which would declare their independence from Great Britain.

Continental Congress voted in favor of independence on July 2nd. On July 4th a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson was adopted as the Declaration of Independence. The birth of America’s independence has been a celebrated tradition since 1776. In 1941 the Fourth of July became a federal holiday in the United States.
