6 Cleaning Tips For Your New Home

By: Beverly Jenkins

When moving to a new house, it is a good habit to clean the property thoroughly. You also need to prepare some of your belongings for the big move. This will help you have a smooth transition and enjoy a fresh start in your new home. Therefore, by cleaning the following things, you actually enhance that feeling of “newness” in your new home.

  1. Couches

Couches are prone to accumulation of dust. Whether you are moving to a furnished house or are carrying in your sofas, cleaning them is a great idea. Additionally, you will get rid of any dirt that may have accumulated and give them a new look.

  1. Drapes

These form an important part of home furnishing. They come in varied designs and sizes. Some people do not clean drapes as often as they ought to, especially for fitted blinds. This leads to accumulation of dust and dirt. Before you use the same curtains in your new home, it is important to have them cleaned.

  1. Rugs

For those who love floor rugs, before you move to another house, it is advisable to have them cleaned. Whether they are doormats or living room carpets, rugs gather dust very easily.

After cleaning rugs, make sure that they are dried well.

  1. Mattresses and other bedding’s

One of the rarely cleaned bedding in the house is the mattress. Yet, it helps people sleep and rest comfortably. It gathers a wide range of dirt, ranging from sweat to dust. Dust mites also get a breeding ground. Before moving to a new house, consider having your mattress cleaned. This applies to other bedding’s too. You do not want to carry pests with you to your new home.

  1. Lighting fixtures

Dust settles on lamps over time. Cleaning your lighting fixtures will bring back their luster. This leaves your house feeling pleasantly attractive. Care needs to be taken while doing this to avoid breakage, especially for glassware.  Some fixtures are priceless antiques and need someone with an eye for detail to clean them. In such cases, take care of them personally, or contract a professional to do the job for you.

  1. Cabinets and wardrobes

Whether it’s the kitchen cabinets or bedroom wardrobes, it is common for dust to settle. In addition, the kitchen is where food is prepared and the cabinets are used to store utensils. Therefore, if the cabinets are not cleansed, you could create a loophole for food contamination.

Clean wardrobe cabinets can keep your clothes smelling fresh.
